چکیده

M e t h o d s Data sources: MEDLINE (1966 to 2005). Study selection and assessment: Randomized placebo-controlled trials (RCTs) and systematic reviews that evaluated aspirin, 75 to 325 mg/d and assessed upper GI bleeding or development of endoscopic ulcers. Cohort and case–control studies were also sought to identify risk factors for bleeding associated with low-dose aspirin. Outcomes: GI bleeding and development of endoscopic ulcers.

SECONDARY PREVENTION OF UPPER GASTROINTESTINAL BLEEDING IN LOW DOSE ASPIRIN USERS INFECTED WITHHELICOBACTER PYLORI

ABSTRACT Background: Aspirin even at low dose ( 100 mg) can increase the risk of upper gastrointestinal bleeding. It is usual to use low dose aspirin for cardiovascular prophylaxis. We hypothesized that Helicobacter pylori eradication is as effective as omeprazole maintenance therapy for secondary prevention of bleeding in those who take low dose aspirin and are positive for Helicobacter pylor...

Protons pump inhibitor treatment and lower gastrointestinal bleeding: Balancing risks and benefits

Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) represent a milestone in the treatment of acid-related diseases, and are the mainstay in preventing upper gastrointestinal bleeding in high-risk patients treated with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or low-dose aspirin. However, this beneficial effect does not extend to the lower gastrointestinal tract. PPIs do not prevent NSAID or aspirin-associated ...

Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomised Trials to Ascertain Fatal Gastrointestinal Bleeding Events Attributable to Preventive Low-Dose Aspirin: No Evidence of Increased Risk

BACKGROUND Aspirin has been shown to lower the incidence and the mortality of vascular disease and cancer but its wider adoption appears to be seriously impeded by concerns about gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding. Unlike heart attacks, stroke and cancer, GI bleeding is an acute event, usually followed by complete recovery. We propose therefore that a more appropriate evaluation of the risk-benefit...

An Unusual Cause of Gastrointestinal Bleeding: Gastric Fundic Gland Polyps

The most usual causes of iron deficiency anemia are related to the digestive disease: acute or chronic blood loss (due to cancer or polyp of colon or stomach, peptic ulcer, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs use, inflammatory bowel disease, vascular lesions) or reduced iron absorption (in celiac disease, small bowel bacterial overgrowth, Whipple’s disease, lymphangiectasia, gastrectomy and ga...

Determination of the adequate dosage of rebamipide, a gastric mucoprotective drug, to prevent low-dose aspirin-induced gastrointestinal mucosal injury

Small intestinal mucosal injury caused by low-dose aspirin is a common cause of obscure gastrointestinal bleeding. We aimed to investigate the protective effects and optimal dose of rebamipide for low-dose aspirin-induced gastrointestinal mucosal injury. In this prospective randomized trial, 45 healthy volunteers (aged 20-65 years) were included and divided into three groups. The groups receive...
